Looking After Your Pressure Cooker
Pressure cooker is one of the most used and loved kitchen appliances at home. There are some who consider this piece of appliance as their partner in cooking.
However, like any other appliances, you must very well know that its value depreciates over a period of time. There would be some problems that will come along the way and most often it can affect its cooking performance or worst can lead to fire or minor accidents right at the comforts of your home.
Therefore, it is highly recommended that you do ensure that your pressure cooker is very well maintained and used properly.
Here are some few tips which you can easily follow when it comes to proper maintenance of your pressure cooker:
Always monitor the lid. Look for either cracks or dirt. Ensure that the lid is very well clean and clear enough for you to see what’s inside.
Rubber ring seal should be in good condition. Try to check if the rubber has cracks, holes, or if it is not soft or flexible enough. If any of these three are present, you need to throw it away and replace it with a new rubber ring seal.
Double check the valves and vents. The moveable ones should be free and not restricted.
If a recipe requires longer cooking time, add more water.
Make sure the pressure cooker is unplugged when you leave the house, go off to sleep, or doing something. You should be attentive when cooking using a pressure cooker.
Use timer in order to know that you reach the desired pressure.
Never attempt to use any force in order to open the lid. You can use the natural, cold water (except for electric pressure cooker) or the quick release method.
